Jan Fatthauer, owner of the customising company 9ff, has set a new speed record of 388 km/h (242.5 mph) for road-approved vehicles in a car fitted with Continental standard production tyres.
His Porsche-based record-breaking racer was fitted with ContiSportContact™ 2 Vmax tyres for the event, to ensure good grip even at very high speed.
Based on the Porsche GT3, the vehicle 9ff developed can only be described in superlatives. It has a 3.8 litre twin turbo flat engine which produces 620 kW (840 hp) and thanks to its lightweight design, the car weighs a mere 1,300 kg, less than a standard VW Golf. Various modifications make the car body very aerodynamic, without road grip being lost at maximum speed.

The record-breaking run was held on the high-speed circuit in Nardó in southern Italy and for the event the car was fitted with ContiSportContact 2 Vmax tyres, size 235/35 ZR 19 on the front and 275/30 ZR 19 on the rear. Made by Continental, this is the fastest standard production tyre in the world and is in fact approved for speeds of up to 360 km/hr, but for controlled applications and with the chassis tuned for the specific road conditions, short periods at higher speeds are also possible without any problem.9ff is now planning another record attempt for the near future - this time 400 km/h (250 mph). And once again the 9F-V400 will be fitted with ContiSportContact 2 Vmax tyres.
ContiSportContact™ 2 Vmax tyres are available in Australia. Along with ContiSportContact
& ContiSportContact™ 2 tyres, there are over 100 options available from 15" to 20" and approved up
to 360km/hr. |
